Event: Nuns of Armathwaite – Mediaeval Forgers?

Harry Hawkins is a longstanding friend of our Society, having given earlier talks. One of his memorable past topics featured the economic advantages of monastic sheep farming. On that occasion, he had shown some beautiful photographic examples of the woollen material that had been produced in these communities. In contrast, he will talk tonight about the activities of a small Cumbrian priory which had experienced ongoing impediments and threats to its very existence. We will be interested to discover whether the nuns of Armathwaite deserved the title of mediaeval forgers.
